What to Bring to the Hospital

mom and babyWe want your stay at St. John’s Mercy to be as comfortable as possible. As you prepare for your visit, please review the information below regarding items that you will need (or may want to have) during your stay with us.

We suggest you keep your luggage in your car until after you have given birth and are transported to the Family-Focused Care (postpartum) area.

What you bring is very individual and it up to you. In terms of what to pack, we suggest:

  • A written list of your current medications and dosages (the hospital pharmacy will provide all your medications during your stay)
  • Driver's license
  • Insurance card
  • Toiletries
  • Lounge wear (note: during labor you will wear a hospital gown)
  • Support items to comfort you:
    • movies
    • music
    • reading materials
    • massage supplies
    • two pillows
    • camera
    • baby book
    • a focal point (if using)
    • telephone numbers of friends and family
  • Weather-appropriate clothing for departure
