Mercy Childbirth Center:  Homelike Environment, Expert Staff

When Brahms’ Lullaby plays over the public address system at St. John’s Mercy Hospital, it means only one thing: a precious new life has come into the world. This miraculous, life-changing event occurs here an average of 1,000 times a year.

At St. John's Mercy Childbirth Center, we've added a special touch to every step of the birth process.

As the only Joint Commission accredited hospital in our service area, we will welcome your new arrival in comfortable, homelike labor-delivery-recovery suites.

These include birthing beds, a large mirror for moms who want to watch the birth and monitors to continuously track a laboring mother’s progress and accurately evaluate baby’s well-being and heart rate during labor and delivery. The childbirth area also includes six postpartum rooms and two triage rooms for outpatients. Rooms are equipped with telephones, cable TV and combo VCR/DVD/CD players, a table and chairs and private bath with shower.

Our team of highly qualified, experienced physicians and nursing staff will be ready with advanced technology, a touch of the hand and a reassuring voice. One-on-one, personalized care is the hallmark of the Mercy Childbirth Center.

Labor and delivery are covered 24/7 by in-house anesthesia services which allows mothers-to-be and their physicians to manage labor and delivery day or night and have epidural services as needed.

St. John’s Mercy Hospital offers a free New Mom’s Network program, which is an informal monthly gathering of new parents and their children led by a maternal child educator. The meetings offer a small group setting to ask questions of the speakers who are often pediatricians, dietitians and other care providers. The meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at the Hospital in the fourth floor family room from 10 to 11:30 a.m. For more information, please call 636-239-8529.

St. John’s Mercy Hospital is dedicated to making the whole family’s experience pleasant. Moms can opt either for “rooming in” or the nursery for their babies and suites include a recliner or chair that pulls out into a bed for Dad. That allows him to support the new mother and bond with his baby.

We are your community hospital, where special deliveries happen every day.

Because bringing a new life into the world is so special, you should have confidence in the hospital and staff who provide care when your baby is born. At St. John's Mercy Hospital, we are determined to give you and your baby comfort and security as you begin your new life together.

NICU for High-Risk Situations
St. John’s Mercy Children’s Hospital (SJMCH) is offering an important new service for St. John’s Mercy Hospital’s smallest patients: a dedicated Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) transport team. The transport team is comprised of highly trained respiratory therapists and registered nurses.

The SJMCH NICU is the only Level III (highest level) NICU in St. Louis County, and the busiest NICU in the entire region. At the NICU, experienced neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners and staff nurses are available 24 hours a day. St. John’s Mercy Hospital’s relationship with the Medical Center allows the two hospitals to transport premature or critically ill babies by helicopter to the NICU in Creve Coeur in minutes. In less critical situations, patients are transferred by ambulance.

St. John’s Mercy Children’s Hospital for Pediatric Care
In addition, St. John’s Mercy Hospital is affiliated with St. John's Mercy Children's Hospital which is staffed by hundreds of pediatric specialists and sub specialists.  The doctors provide some of the most advanced treatment options available.  Services include a dedicated pediatric emergency department and the only pediatric intensive care unit in St. Louis County.

St. John's Mercy Children's Hospital provides medical and surgical care for virtually all health issues experienced by newborns through teens in an atmosphere created especially for children.
